Rachel Packota

This is the story of how the middle child of two science-oriented parents became an art major . . .

Born in Toronto in 1982, Rachel lived most of her life in Saskatoon. Most people probably thought she was mute but she preferred to ‘speak’ with her painting or cello. Her free time (and class time) was spent drawing, reading, playing music, caring for animals and avoiding people. She was an explorer of the arts - active in everything from visual art to dance to drama and music and even the martial arts.

High School was spent at Walter Murray where she was part of the advanced program and blessed with two kind and inspirational teachers as mentors. She became involved in theatre and film (let’s hear it for performance art!) and graduated in 2000 with the decision to pursue acting.

So after a year in her rival passion, veterinary medicine, she returned to Drama and has recently appeared in “M” a play based on the Fritz Lang film and received an honourable mention at the 24 hour play writing competition for her script Entropy, Chemistry and other Laws of Nature.

Rachel, resides in Saskatoon, has a brown belt in Tae Kwon Do, snowboards and nurtures a growing obsession with Harry Potter.

She plans to move back to Toronto to pursue further acting education and become a working actor with her own indie film company. She hopes to use the multiple facets of the arts to inspire and challenge others. She loves art because “it is what I know to be true”.

“To be an actor is to be Soul candy.”
